Tennis at Winchcombe Secondary School
Thursday the 8th March saw the last of the cross country races for the year. Having had to cancel the race the week before due to snow, the competition consisted of 3 races from October to March. Each course varied in terrain and distances were ran up to 1.25miles. Representing Winchcombe Abbey were a collective of 15 children across all 3 races. All children demonstrated a high level of perseverance and admirable determination.
Charlie, from year 5 raced extremely well in the October meet coming in the top 25 out of 200. Alex from year 6 ran a smart race last week coming 33rd out of approximately 200 children. Finally, Islay from year 5 bought it home for the girls coming 52nd out of approximately 200 girls. Miss mackenzie was very proud of all the children who took part.
The Winchcombe Abbey Athletics Team joined seven other schools at All Saints Academy on the 30th January as part of the Sportshall Primary Programme. The children competed in a variety of events such as relays, jumping and throwing disciplines. The children represented Winchcombe beautifully by cheering each other on and just missed out on a medal. The children thoroughly enjoyed it and Miss Mackenzie was very proud of their team spirit.
The Winchcombe Netball Team have been practising extremely hard every Monday since September. On Thursday 22nd February they braved the bitter cold to take part in a tournament at Dunalley Primary School. They put all their skills into action and worked exceptionally well as a team to win 3 out of the 4 games. The children's unity was an absolute credit to the school, Miss Mackenzie was jumping up and down with pure delight at how well the children had done.
Online Body Coach Session
On Wednesday 14th June Year 3 and 4 had the opportunity to take part in a high intensity interval training (HIIT) online session with thousands of primary schools from all over the world. The Body Coach ran a live session for primary schools which consisted of fast pace exercises for twenty minutes, and year 3 and 4 linked to the session and joined in! The children and staff thoroughly enjoyed it - everyone was enthusiastic and sweaty! There were schools from Barbados, Dubai and many other countries participating, and we are glad that Winchcombe Abbey joined in and enjoyed the exercises!
Mountain Biking Challenge
Four of our children, two from Year 5 and two from Year 6 took part in a mountain biking challenge at Winchcombe School in April. Organised by the Cheltenham & North Tewkesbury School Sport Network, children from thirteen local schools enjoyed a day of team relay challenges and had a great time. Our team won the award for 'Self Belief' and were given a wristband each.
