September 2012 saw the launch of the Network of Teaching Excellence in Computer Science. Its aim is to co-ordinate and provide training opportunities for both existing teachers and those training for the profession. This initiative is supported by The Department For Education, CPHC, Microsoft and Google. As the government and other industry leaders and educators call for more Computer Science in the school curriculum there is a need to raise the confidence level of existing ICT/Computing teachers to embrace Computer Science, if they are not already doing so. The Network includes master teachers, lead schools and university partners.
The heart of the programme is to build a high-quality, sustainable CPD infrastructure at low cost. This will be achieved by nurturing long-term, bottom-up collaboration between teachers, schools, universities and employers.
We are proud to have been awarded the status of Lead School in the Network of Excellence in the Teaching of Computer Science. As a Lead School in Gloucestershire we are able to offer different avenues of support:
- Training sessions at Winchcombe Abbey
- Training sessions held at your school
- Support for subject leaders or individual teachers

I have over 25 years of experience in the education sector, both as a teacher and as a Local Authority Primary ICT Consultant. I currently teach Y5 and lead computing at Winchcombe Abbey Primary School. In 2013, I became a Computing at School Master Teacher and have run training sessions and supported teachers with the different aspects of the computing curriculum as well as using technology to enhance teaching and learning. I really love using technology with my class who are wonderfully responsive and really enjoy working with teaching colleagues to identify creative and innovative ways of using digital tools which are both practical and straightforward to implement in the classroom.
Computing Subject Leader Group
We currently run a Computing Subject Leader Group which meets once a term to discuss any current initiatives and to share resources and ideas. If you would be interested in joining us, please email email@example.com
