EYFS / KS1 Support

Mrs Debbie Bullingham

I have been a teacher for 22 years and have experience of teaching Reception through to Y6. The majority of my teaching has been in KS1 and in EYFS.

Since 2010, I have been a Reception teacher and EYFS lead at Winchcombe Abbey Primary School. The school has 271 children on roll over 10 classes currently (2018). Our intake has grown from 30 to 45 and our EYFS children are now taught in 2 classes in a semi open plan unit of 22/23.

I am passionate about Early Years and continually evolve my practice to improve the outcomes and experiences we offer children in the foundation stage. Talk for Writing/story making has been central to our approach in EYFS at Winchcombe for since 2012 and I have since developed an approach to extend Talk for Writing into the teaching of reading which I call ‘explore reading’. The essence of this approach is now being used across the school in place of traditional guided reading.

Creating opportunities for children to lead their own play and are important aspects of my early years philosophy. I have developed an area of my classroom into a blank open ended space called ‘the hub’ where children lead their own learning through play scaffolded by an adult. I am a qualified Forest School leader and our Reception children experience the benefits of weekly Forest School throughout the year. The maths approach we have developed as a team at Winchcombe combines active maths, a discovery approach, alongside systematic and thorough teaching of maths concepts.

I keep up to date with educational research, development and changes and recently completed my NPQML and focused upon ‘parental engagement in maths in EYFS’.

We are a Philosophy for Children school and I am SAPERE qualified to Level 2. We use P4C regularly as an approach within EYFS and throughout school.

I lead an Early Years cluster within my group of academy schools and have previously supported colleagues within the group and from local schools by welcoming visits to observe my teaching. I have also supported teachers in their own setting. I enjoy sharing ideas and my experiences to support others to improve their practice and outcomes for children.

In addition to EYFS, I also lead art across the school and have developed a whole school skills based art plan to support our two year rolling programme. I organise an annual school arts week.

I can offer support and expertise with:

  • Supporting NQTs and teachers new to EYFS teaching
  • Recording, cohort tracking and analysing data
  • EYFSP moderation
  • EYFS audit/self evaluation and creation of development plans
  • Provision planning tailored to cohort needs
  • Talk for writing/story making
  • Active phonics and literacy in the Early Years
  • Transition from pre-school to school
  • Philosophy for Children (P4C)
